Our Vision

KC Social Innovation Center (KCSIC) is a regional nonprofit and impact agency focused on creating social impact in an increasingly digital world, using equity-centered systems-design and technology to drive future workforce initiatives and innovations in career-connected learning.

We believe the most important and sustainable path to economic and social mobility is education and learning. We believe education must be accessible and equitable to all, and that early exposure to industry-informed learning pathways are what connect people to jobs. We believe the future of work and workforce programs rely on digital equity and a capacity to prepare our youth successfully for the jobs of tomorrow.

KCSIC was launched in early 2016 to be an agile and adaptable future-ready workforce innovator, coordinating regional initiatives around career-connected learning, and acting as a regional hub for human capital development in smart, digital-centric Kansas City.

Our largest initiative is Hire KC - the signature youth employment program started by Kansas City, Missouri Mayor Sly James in 2014. In 2017, Mayor James turned the program over to KCSIC to expand the program’s impact in the community and put its promise into practice: to support opportunity with equity, and illuminate career pathways so that all youth can learn and grow into promising futures. Today, Hire KC connects young people to work-based opportunities, and coordinates career-connected learning and experiences that lead to brighter futures and better prepare our youth for the jobs of tomorrow.

Through Hire KC and our growing portfolio, the Center works to engage schools and support a variety of clients, increasing the number of internship and work-based opportunities so we can scale up while continuing to innovate and experiment with new tools, platforms and methodologies to improve youth talent and workforce development in the KC region.
